Welcome
The Office of Inclusion Education provides a variety of workshops for the UW–Madison community; we aim to help develop awareness, knowledge, and skills to engage in creating a welcome and inclusive campus environment for all Badgers.
You may request any regular workshop listed on this page, or we can work with you on a tailored workshop that is not listed.
Request a workshop

- Please request workshops at least 3 weeks in advance.
- Workshops are available to students, faculty, and staff.
- Requests aren’t yet commitments; they need to be confirmed by staff from the Office of Inclusion Education.
- Priority will be given to workshop requests that are for UW-Madison students.
- We ask for a commitment of at least 15 attendees by the requesting group.
- The requesting group is responsible for providing space and accommodations unless otherwise specified.
Inclusion Education Workshops
Inclusion Education workshops are open to all UW-Madison students, staff, and faculty.

Exploring the Self and Building Connections
This introductory workshop invites participants to explore their personal and social identities, reflect on lived experiences, and consider the multiple influences that have shaped who they are today. Through guided activities and discussion, participants will deepen their self-awareness and strengthen their understanding of the structures and communities around them. This workshop is great for anyone looking to better understand themselves and engage more meaningfully with their surrounding environments.
Approximate time: 60-90 minutes
Building Community & Navigating Dialogue Across Difference
This workshop introduces participants to essential skills for engaging in meaningful conversations across differences. Using pluralism as a guiding framework, participants will explore how to build community with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. The workshop will also address how to navigate microaggressions and misunderstandings with empathy and respect. Through guided activities and discussion, participants will be able to strengthen their communication skills and apply practical tools to foster connections and support inclusive communities.
Approximate time: 90 minutes
Creating Welcoming Environments
This workshop invites participants to build their confidence and develop skills to help foster a more inclusive campus environment. Through guided activities and discussions, participants will examine various key factors that can influence students’ sense of belonging and connection on campus and learn practical tools to help create more intentionally welcoming spaces. By the end of the workshop, participants will feel more confident in their ability to help foster a campus environment where all community members feel valued and included.
Approximate time: 60-90 minutes
Learning outcomes
- Self: Participants will learn about who they are and how they can better understand themselves and their peers.
- Systems: Participants will learn about systems and structures they are likely to encounter at UW-Madison and beyond.
- Skills: Participants will learn how to be positive members of their community.

Our Wisconsin, Part 3
Student Led Our Wisconsin Workshops
To honor Our Wisconsin’s roots and students’ desire for in-person educational opportunities, the Our Wisconsin intern team offers opt-in workshops and programming as a part of the Our Wisconsin Experience.
These in-person opportunities focus on exploring the importance of cultivating inclusive communities and acquiring a set of tools and strategies to play an active role in leading those efforts. Our Wisconsin provides both formal and informal training and resource building sessions to students, with a primary focus on first-years, but open to all undergrads.

Student Led Our Wisconsin learning outcomes
- Participants will learn about the wide range of experiences, perspectives, and identities in the UW-Madison community and how to engage in cross-cultural sharing.
- Participants will develop strategies for engaging in dialogue and action to build an inclusive campus.
- Participants will make connections with campus resources and support systems to increase their holistic experience and development.
Unpacking Concepts
Unpacking Concepts Workshop Series
The Unpacking Concepts workshop series is a set of workshops hosted by the Office of Inclusion Education, Multicultural Student Center, and the Gender and Sexuality Campus Center to provide opportunities for self-exploration and action for student leaders. Utilizing the value of collective care, we hope to provide a community of support, resources, and facilitators that can provide insight on the experiences of living and working within diverse communities.
These workshops are open to all students and intended to support the development of student leaders.
Learning Outcomes:
- Participants will be able to define relevant concepts and the effects on our communities
- Participants will be able to demonstrate self-awareness of their identities and experiences.
- Participants will build a skill necessary to build welcoming communities.
- Participants will be able to name at least one resource to support their continued development as leaders.
