Unpacking Concepts Workshop Series

The Unpacking Concepts workshop series is a set of workshops that move beyond foundational social justice knowledge and seek to equip individuals with an opportunity to dig deeper into examining concepts of power, privilege, and oppression. These workshops will be held 4 times in the fall semester and are open for any undergraduate individuals to attend. You must register and food will be provided at each event.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Participants will be able to define social justice concepts and the effects on our communities.
  • Participants will be able to demonstrate self-awareness of their identities and experiences. 
  • Participants will build a skill necessary to build a socially just approach.
  • Participants will be able to name at least one resource available to them to address and challenge oppression. 

 

Unpacking Concepts: White Privilege

Unpacking Concepts: White Privilege, is an intentional time for undergraduate students to learn about how white privilege shows up on campus, in relationships, and our daily lives. Participants can expect to learn about the dynamics of their white privilege through self-reflection and group discussion. This workshop will center self-awareness, inclusion practices, and tools for centering anti-racism. Dinner will be provided. Registration required to attend. Any individual is open to register.

Unpacking Concepts: Power and Privilege in Student Organizations

Unpacking Concepts: Power and Privilege in Student Organizations will focus on the importance of identity, resources, and community to student leadership. Participants will be able to define inclusive leadership, reflect on their collaborative efforts, and share tools to center social justice within their organizations. Dinner will be provided. Registration required with priority given to MSC affiliated organization members.

Unpacking Concepts: Anti-Blackness in POC communities is a workshop focused on understanding and challenging the anti-Blackness within ourselves, our families, and our communities. Participants will learn the history of anti-Blackness and colorism, will reflect on our socializations, and gain resources to address and challenge anti-blackness. Dinner will be provided. Registration required with priority given to MSC affiliated organization members.

Unpacking Concepts: Family and Celebration will be a time to share in community with a panel of guests sharing their experiences with social identity, family dynamics, and the varying ways in which we engage in celebration. Dinner will be provided. Registration required with priority given to MSC affiliated organization members.
